Emma Farley who worked with Professor Paul Greengard at Rockefeller University, New York

Paul Myoung who worked with Professor Mony De Leon at NYU Medical Center, New York

Brian Toy who work worked Professor Howard Fields at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF)

It was an extremely difficult decision as we received many outstanding applications. As we continue to raise more money, we hope to increase the number of Fellowships awarded.

“By spending this summer doing research, I have gained a greater understanding of research as a career and this has confirmed my desire to follow this career path. As a result of my placement I have decided to apply for a PhD in neuroscience upon completion of my masters. The entire project was extremely beneficial and I am very grateful to the IES Brain Research Foundation for providing me with this amazing opportunity and more importantly everyone who has or in the future supports this great cause”.

Thank you very much for the amazing opportunity provided by the Irene and Eric Simon Brain Research Foundation fellowship. I had an incredible experience and learned various different techniques this summer performing research under Dr. Gregory Miller. It was not only a great honor to receive the IES Brain Research Fellowship, but it also allowed me to greatly enhance my knowledge and experience in the field of neuroscience. I really appreciate it!!!
  Thank you again,
Liz Calder, Colgate University Class ‘07
2006 IES Brain Research Foundation Summer Fellow

“I am truly delighted that Liz Calder was chosen as a Fellowship recipient from the Irene & Eric Simon Brain Research Foundation. This prestigious Fellowship is in honor of Eric Simon. Among other things, our current understanding of the biological basis of drug addiction & pain stems from Dr. Simon’s discovery of opiate receptors in the brain. He is one of the few extraordinary scientists who discover something that forever changes the world and touches the lives of literally everyone you know. I was extremely excited when I learned that Ms. Calder was selected for this Fellowship and also that the decision was in part based on the recognition of the quality and promise of our laboratory. I am extremely thankful to the Irene & Eric Simon Brain Research Foundation for providing both Ms. Calder and myself with this superb opportunity”.
